straight through serial cable and the 3844-Z uses a null-modem serial cable.

No, the 3844-Z will have its own Windows Driver to support Windows
applications.
4. Will the Zebra Keyboard Display Unit (KDU) work with the 3844-Z?
No, currently the KDU is only compatible with EPL-based printers. However, a
custom script with cable adaptor is under development which will enable the KDU
to be used with the 3844-Z. Please check the Zebra web site for updates on
availability of this product.
5. Can I upgrade a 3842 to a 3844-Z by simply installing firmware?
No. The two products have completely different main logic boards. Also, the

#1).

with ZebraLink (ZebraNet View and ZebraNet Alert)?
Yes. While the EPL-based 3842 has limited status reporting when using the
ZebraLink utilities, the ZPL-based 3844-Z is fully ZebraLink capable and offers
full support of the features and benefits of the ZebraNet view and ZebraNet alert
utilities.
